Under the apple tree.(Ogródek pod Jabłoniami)

   After several days hard paddling and after losing many calories. It is nice to be able to sit down and have something decent to eat. I can recommend the above eatery, located on the edge of the river in the centre of Augustow, it makes the best steaks in town, as well as several types of salads and edible pizzas. For those who remember Dr Hook, you will be pleasantly suprised to find that Sylvias mother works in the kitchen and that Sylvia works behind the bar and most of the time she is busy serving customers , so answering the phone is not an option. Sylvia also speaks English and provides a very friendly and charming service. Beer is served in glasses not plastic, they also serve Żywiec, which in my opinion is the best beer in Poland. I came to this conclusion after several years of intensive reasearch, which is still ongoing. Meals are served alfresco, with a wonderful view of the river and passing ships. It is also classified as a canoe friendly location, you can leave your boat here and explore the town. For those of you who would like to try something local, then I would suggest the potatoe pancakes, freshly fried , this is one of the few decent vegetarian dishes that you will find in Poland. In my opinion , Sylvias mother also makes the best potatoe pancakes in town. This place is easy to find, as you paddle towards town going with the flow, you will come across a bridge, 50 metres past the bridge, on the right hand side , you will see Sylvias place under the apple tree.
